IPMSIPMS is an acronym for the International Plastic Modellers Society. IPMS was founded in Great Britain in 1963. Its philosophy has always been "By Modellers- For Modellers". As such, the society is run entirely by volunteers as a non-profit organization. Its main aims are to provide a focal point for model builders of all skills and abilities to meet, share ideas and information, display their work and have a respected voice with which to influence the improvements we have seen in the model kit industry over the years. From its humble beginnings, the idea rapidly caught on world-wide and there are now national IPMS organizations in 51 countries spanning all continents. No matter where you are in the world, you are most likely never too far away from a local IPMS Branch. Within the UK, there are 80 branches and over 70 Special Interest Groups. For more information on IPMS UK, visit their web site at : http://ipmsuk.org/
Every year, local branches throughout the country host countless model shows where you can view built models on club displays, enter model competitions, or purchase model kits, accessories, and tools from a large choice of vendors. Information about these events can be found in most national modelling magazines and on the IPMS UK web site at: http://ipmsuk.org/calendar/category/uk-model-shows/ IPMS UK also hosts the world's largest model show, Scale Model World, at the International Exhibition Centre, Telford, Shropshire http://ipmsuk.org/ipms-scale-modelworld/. IPMS IpswichThe Ipswich branch of The International Plastic Modellers Society was established in 2004. Our membership consists of a varied group of modellers, with a common interest in furthering the art of scale modelling through our monthly meetings, where members bring in and discuss their latest projects. In addition to our meetings, we also participate in numerous model shows throughout the year, displaying our models on the IPMS Ipswich club stand. We currently have around 30+ members. One of the phrases we often hear from people is "my models aren't good enough" and the notion that model clubs are only for experts. Well this couldn't be further from the truth. We recognize that model building is first and foremost a hobby. The degree to which you receive enjoyment from building and completing your model is totally down to you. The fact that we all share the same hobby is what matters most. Within our ranks you will find both novice, experts, and all levels in between, bringing together a vast array of skills, expertise and enthusiasm that all are only too happy to share. Newcomers will always be assured of a warm welcome.
